ABOUT
Caroline
since 1985
My 31 year love of food and cooking began when I was a young girl baking
tiny pies in bottle caps for my dolls.
After college I wanted to be an actress which took me to NYC, where gourmet food was my day job. That was in the 80s which was the beginning of a new food culture. At the gourmet shop I worked in, we flew in goat cheese from Europe which was was still wrapped in grape leaves. We also made fresh pasta, which was a very innovative for the United States. I learned so much in NYC and my fascination with the culinary world continued to grow.
From NYC acting took me all over the world to places like London and Alaska, but it didn't take me very long to discover that I was having more fun with food than I was with acting! I ended up in Atlanta where I developed a neighborhood deli which was my test kitchen for years. My catering business grew out of that deli and became my main focus. I honed my culinary skills further and I moved with my family to Asheville, North Carolina in 1993. This was just as the city began its renaissance which allowed me to develop another catering business with a focus on seasonal and locally sourced produce and meats.
I absolutely love what I do and I have had some clients for more than 30 years. I catered a baby shower for one little girl and 25 years later I catered her wedding!
TRAVEL WITH FOOD
My catering career has taken me all over the world, including cooking at a villa in Tuscany for one of my long time client's birthday week. My friend (and sous chef) and I went daily to the local farmer's markets in different hill towns. We bought only the freshest vegetables and meats, driving us to plan our menus based on the ingredients available.
I have catered a family reunion week at Pawley's Island. The family was able to relax and have fun without having to worry about cooking for themselves all week, or going out to dinner with 50 people each night.
One of the first times I catered out of town I traveled to Alaska to cater a wedding. It took place at a ski resort outside of Anchorage. It is always a fun challenge to source food in an unusual location.
For 26 years I have traveled back to Atlanta to cater over the top Christmas parties for some of my longest standing clients.
